Classical Dressage

Training according to the Dressage masters; for the health of the horse

Student of Debra and Dominique Barbier

Posted By Iris on February 12, 2010

I’m going to California the 19th! I’m going to be a working student of Debra and Dominique Barbier on Barbierfarm!

I want to learn the art of Classical Dressage and of course preferably from a master (or two). When I inquired about a student place at Barbierfarm, I didn’t intend to go right away, it was just curiosity… I mean, I live in West Virginia with my husband, 3000 miles away… But when a place opened up pretty quickly, I could not refuse! This is a golden opportunity! I have to make it work somehow, and I will :-) I will just have to travel up and down a lot for the year I’m there and my poor hubby has to bear with me (thank you Tk, you’re the best!)

I booked my ticked and will fly early in the morning from Pittsburg… I am very excited and a bit nervous…

When I’m there I will stay in a house on the property with another student (or two). We (the students) will feed the horses, groom them and exercise them too. What this means you will find out as this blog progresses. We don’t have to muck though (maybe here and there but they have somebody for the main mucking). We get a mounted lesson every day! This will speed up my experience and skyrocket my riding!

I can’t wait!

This blog will start out mainly describing my experience as a student on Barbierfarm for the year I will be there. I will tell my adventures but will also evaluate, give tips and do book reviews all on the art of Classical Dressage. After the year the website will probably keep telling my story but by then as an professional horse woman. As I evolve into a more and more skilled trainer/ rider this website will evolve with me :-)

Come back soon for my story!
